The British territory of Gibraltar draws many visitors every year thanks to its Mediterranean climate and its lively city. Gibraltar Airport is based very close to the city, just 500 meters from the center. The airport itself is owned by the British military but it also servers as a commercial airport for the airline carriers such as British Airways and Easy jet. Despite its small size and only four airlines operating to it, the airport sees approximately 300,000 travellers a year. It is due to these numbers and its growing popularity and demand that the airport is being expanded to accommodate up to 1 million passengers a year. The new airport promises to make access to Gibraltar city and the territory of Gibraltar itself far easier for business and tourist visitors alike.
Gibraltar airport is relatively small with a large number of passengers travelling through it. As a result of this there is much competition between travellers that want to hire a car for the duration of their stay from the airport. If you have not booked your car hire ahead of your arrival you could be let down with none available when you land. To ensure that this does not happen I always advise to book a car rental in advance.
